John Goodacre is a Professor in Computer Architectures from the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester, having moved in 2018 from ARM ltd, where he was Director of Technology and Systems in their Research Group. He is also co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Bamboo Systems Limited, a server manufacturer specialising in innovative cloud services and high throughput computing (HTC).
During his career, he has worked on the first scalable commodity telephony platform, introduced the first real-time collaboration tools shipped in Microsoft Exchange 2000. More recently, he led the design and introduction of the ARM MPCore multicore processor and its associated technologies, which enabled today’s smartphone and became the foundation for future data centre infrastructure.
Today, his works across the academic, industrial and government fields, with research exploring hyper-scale server architecture, energy efficient HPC systems for Exascale compute and secure, ubiquitous computing to the edge. He also sits on various advisory boards at both national and European level and is a frequent conference speaker.
